From Budapest to South Africa: help me bring kürtőskalács home.

I've always thought of myself as a sweet maker. For four years, Budapest was home, and kürtőskalács was the smell I miss most from those winters. I never stopped thinking about it after I left.

This is what's coming to South African streets.

Freshly roasted kürtőskalács chimney cake, caramelised and dusted with cinnamon sugar, still steaming
Our Story

Why I'm building this myself.

I have always thought of myself as a sweet maker.

For four years, Budapest was home. Kürtőskalács — chimney cake — was everywhere there: dough wound around a wooden cone, slow-roasted until golden, then rolled in cinnamon sugar or cocoa while it's still warm enough to fog the air. It became the thing I missed most. I never stopped thinking about it after I left.

For the past seven months, I've been searching hard for my next corporate role — genuinely, persistently, following every lead I could find. It hasn't landed. And somewhere in that search, it became clear that the next chapter wasn't going to look like the last one.

So I'm building it myself: The AnGeRuCo Chimney Cake Company, bringing real, hand-rolled kürtőskalács to South Africa's specialty and gourmet food markets — the way I learned to love it, adapted for a new home. I haven't found anything quite like it in South Africa's gourmet food scene yet, and I want to be the one who brings it here.

If you knew me in Budapest, in Amsterdam, or anywhere along the way — you've probably heard me talk about this cake. Now I get to actually make it, and I'd love for you to be part of how it started.

What This Campaign Funds

The imported chimney cake oven, outfitting the food truck, our first batch of ingredients and packaging, and the market and stall fees to get in front of first customers.

Why It Matters To Me

This is the first thing I've built entirely on my own terms, after months of doors not opening the way I expected. Your pledge is what actually buys the oven and gets this business open — it's as direct as that. Every reward tier below, from a simple shout-out to becoming an AnGeRuCo Hearth Sponsor, is my way of thanking you for being part of that first push, however big or small.

Hand-Rolled, Fire-Roasted

Dough wound around a wooden cone, slow-roasted until the crust caramelises, then rolled warm in cinnamon sugar.

Three Ways In

Our flagship flavours

Simple, traditional, and built around the caramelised crust that makes kürtőskalács what it is.

Cinnamon

The classic. A generous roll in warm cinnamon the moment it comes off the spit, so the crust stays crisp and fragrant.

Coconut

Toasted desiccated coconut pressed into the crust while it's still warm, adding a light, nutty sweetness to every ring.

Cocoa

A dusting of rich cocoa over the caramelised crust for a deeper, more indulgent bite.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pay, and is it safe?

All pledges are processed through iKhokha, a PCI-compliant, 3D Secure payment provider. You'll pay by card on a secure checkout page — we never see or store your card details.

Is iKhokha a trustworthy payment provider?

Yes. iKhokha is one of South Africa's leading fintech payment providers, trusted by tens of thousands of businesses nationwide. It's certified by Visa, Mastercard, and EMVCo, fully PCI compliant, and protects every payment with 3D Secure. Your card details are handled entirely on iKhokha's own secure systems and never pass through or get stored on our website.

I'm outside South Africa — can I still back this?

Yes. iKhokha accepts international cards; your own bank handles the currency conversion automatically at checkout, so you simply pay in your local currency at the prevailing rate.

When will rewards be delivered?

Digital rewards (certificates, Founding Circle listings, updates) go out shortly after the campaign closes. Cake vouchers and physical rewards follow once the truck and oven are operational — we'll keep every backer updated on timing.

What happens if the funding goal isn't reached?

Pledges are processed immediately through iKhokha as each backer commits, rather than being held until a target is met — so every contribution goes straight toward getting AnGeRuCo off the ground. If the campaign falls short of its full goal, we'll keep every backer updated on what that means for our timeline and rollout.
